100 Years of Guiding in NSW
Girl Guides NSW was officially formed in 1920, and they celebrated 100 years of Guiding in 2020. It is a great achievement for the organisation and for past and present members. This continues to be celebrated with the entire community of Guides, volunteers and supporters.
Girl Guiding NSW recognises that their past provides them with the foundations to shape the present and in turn the future. Girl Guiding NSW will always do their best to empower girls and young women and give them a place to grow. For more information see this copy from the Wayback Machine centenary celebrations.
Australian Guide Program: Science and Technology
There are many different badges and awards that participation in JOTA and JOTI can contribute to, but the Science and Technology Challenge one is perhaps the most relevant.
The requirement is to choose four challenges from a broad range of program topics. Here are some suggestions that can be easily done as part of JOTA or JOTI.
Increase your computer skills:
- Learn about and use the Internet
- Program a computer such as the Arduino Nano.
Check out communication methods and use one to get in touch with a friend:
Create something powered by air, electricity or water:
- See the various Electronics kits that have been assembled each year.
Promote Guiding using technical equipment:
- Digital camera and website - your photos can be added to this site.
Create your own challenge to widen your understanding of science and technology.
- Talk to your leaders about the possibilities.
Amateur Radio Foundation License
In 2005, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, ACMA, introduced an Amateur Radio Foundation license, targetted at a younger and less technical audience. The Foundation License has become the perfect license for Guides to get started in Amateur Radio.
